Spring Core is open to all kids, ages 4–18, of any ability. Interest and enthusiasm are the only prerequisites for playing. Spring season features fast-paced, small-sided format that anyone can enjoy and is typically considered more casual than Fall core with t-shirts being used as uniforms. All games will take place on Fridays in Davis leaving weekends free. Field size, goal size, and team size will be small for most divisions (typically 4v4 on the field).
Team Placement Players are grouped by grade year and gender with teams balanced by skill level. When possible, teams are formed based on geographic area. Friend or coach requests are not accepted. Teams are only formed if enough volunteers (coaches/referees) are available, and some divisions may be co-ed depending on registration numbers.
Practice Schedule Practices are once per week for about an hour, typically between 4–6pm. You cannot request specific days, times, or locations. Your coach sets the schedule and will contact you in mid-to-late March. If you want schedule flexibility, we encourage you to volunteer as a coach.
Game Schedule Games are held Friday evenings (4–7pm) from early April through mid-May. All games take place locally in Davis. Each season is 7 to 8 games (one per Friday).
Game Format Teams play in a small-sided format (primarily 4v4) designed to maximize touches on the ball, participation, and fast-paced skill development.
Travel All games are local in Davis—no travel is expected for the spring season.
Waitlists Late registration is not guaranteed; placement depends on space and volunteer availability. Early registrants are more likely to be placed on a team. Waitlisted players will be notified if a spot opens (with 48 hours to accept).
Communication Timing Coaches typically reach out around March 19–26, so there may be a short waiting period after registration.
Equipment and Rules Families must provide cleats (or closed-toe shoes), shin guards, and socks to cover shin guards. Jewelry is not allowed during play. Coaches will provide team equipment (including t-shirt and soccer ball) for players.
No Scheduling Requests The program cannot accommodate requests for practice days, times, locations, or team placement for convenience (including carpooling). We're always impressed by how new team members work together to make soccer happen for everyone on the team when needs are communicated. Volunteer coaches do choose their practice day/time/location so if a specific schedule is needed, sign up to volunteer!
