Teams are now being formed! Registration will remain open until all roster spots are filled.
Here is the sequence of events that occurs that leads to your athlete’s placement on a team and the establishment of practice and game schedules.
Step 1: Participant Registration: The registration deadline was July 20 and is when we begin to form teams. This is why practice and game schedules cannot be set before you register; we don’t know how many kids will register to play from each school/area until registration closes. Players can join a waitlist for free and will be notified if space becomes available on a team.
Step 2: Coach and Referee Recruitment July 20 - August 5: We rely on trained volunteers, typically parents, to coach and referee games for teams. For each sport, we offer a coach training clinic, age-appropriate lesson plan materials, easy-to-use communication tools and ongoing support. Our coaches are fully background checked and spend 2-4 hours per week volunteering. You can indicate your interest in coaching as part of your child’s league registration. After the league registration deadline, coaches will be assigned to teams and will be contacted by a sports manager to begin the onboarding process.
Step 3: Team Formation and Game Scheduling August 5 - August 12: Teams are formed and in most cases, players will be placed on a team with other registrants of the same grade/gender/school. After team rosters are finalized and all coaches are in place, game schedules will be created. K - 12th grade should expect to play 1 game on each Saturday from September 12 - October 31. 3rd-12th grade teams should also expect to participate in season ending tournaments during the first two weekends of November.
Step 4: Coach Organizational Meeting August 18: At the first meeting of coaches, each will receive player information, as well as an overview of the program philosophy, important dates and timelines. All teams are expected to send at least one coach (head or assistant) to the coaches meeting each season. Coaches will reach out to players on their team after the organization meeting
Step 5: Practice Times and Games: Your team’s coach(es) will communicate practice and game times and locations.
Practices typically take place late afternoon or early evening. The length and frequency of practices are based on grade level. Younger grades (K-2) will have a minimum of one practice per week; 3rd grade and above may have as many as two practices per week.
Games are on Saturdays starting September 12.
Coaches will reach out with your practice and game schedule between August 19 - 23.
Attire: Players provide: Shin guards are required; soccer cleats are recommended. For practices, wear shinguards with socks that cover them, closed toed shoes, and athletic attire. For games, a uniform is provided to wear and should not be altered.
Water Bottles: Please bring a filled water bottle to each practice and game.
Illness/Wellness: Keep your child home from practice or games following the same guidelines as public schools related to illness. If games or practices must cancel due to heat, AQI, or other factor your coach will let you know. All health and safety policies are available online.
Transportation & Drop-Offs: Only the participant who is registered to play may attend practices and games. Parents and guardians are encouraged to stay and enjoy the practice and games whenever possible and this is required for Pre-K/TK - 2nd graders. Coaches will not provide transportation to games or practice. Parents can organize team carpools if they desire.
Spectator Expectations: Family members play an important role at practices and games. Your presence on the sideline and how you support players can enhance or detract from your child’s sport experience. At Davis Community Soccer we encourage spectators to use non-directional cheering to support players on and off the field or court. There are four key roles to keep in mind at practices and games:
In youth sports, mistakes are a vital part of the learning process. The coach’s role is to seize those moments to help kids succeed and to teach them important life lessons through the game and sport. We encourage you to give our coaches and officials the patience, grace and support they need to carry on practice or a game. If you have constructive feedback or concerns, please contact us by email play@davissoccer.com.
No Alcohol, Cannabis, Vaping, Tobacco, or Controlled Substances: The sale, possession, or use of alcohol, cannabis, vaping or e-cigarette devices, tobacco products (including cigarettes, cigars, and pipes), or controlled substances is not permitted on the field or in parking lots while games or practices are occuring.
Player Discipline A coach has the authority to establish reasonable disciplinary guidelines and penalties. This may include disciplinary actions for players who will not follow instructions or who willfully disrupt practices, etc. Such action cannot be more severe than seven (7) days suspension from team activities. If a coach believes more disciplinary action is needed, they should petition their program lead for guidance and approval for additional disciplinary action. Before any disciplinary action takes place, the player's parents should be notified and provided all details regarding violations and consequences, along with any actionable steps that can be taken to resume team activities.
