Training Teams
Is your player on our 2026 Fall League waitlist or just looking for a fun, low-pressure way to play this fall? Training Teams might be exactly what you're looking for.
We're launching Training Teams, a more casual option that gets kids playing real soccer with a real team, without needing an open league roster spot.
Here's what it takes to make a team happen:
- Coach volunteers — Every team needs a parent coach or two to lead the group. No experience necessary. We've got you covered with a full 8-week training plan that teaches soccer (and a lot more) that you can run right off the page. Willing to coach or co-coach? Let us know!
- Player availability — Since scheduling is usually the trickiest part, we're keeping it simple: all teams practice on Wednesdays, with Saturday scrimmages against your own team or another squad.
To sign up, fill out the form and let us know your coach availability and ensure your player is available on Wednesdays
Training Teams meet once a week for practice, then scrimmage (sometimes within the team, sometimes against another team) on Saturdays. Games won't have referees or uniforms. It's a more casual fall experience, functioning like pick-up soccer in some ways. It's built for players who want real team experience but weren't able to be registered by the deadline for when we had to finalize team numbers (which affects uniform orders, scheduling, coach recruitment, and more).
Here's how Training Teams work:
Age Groups
- U6/7 (K and 1st graders) — based on waitlists, we anticipate 2 teams, but can add more with coach volunteers
- U8/9 (2nd and 3rd graders) — based on waitlists, we anticipate 2 teams, but can add more with coach volunteers
- Teams will be co-ed, with some flexibility in age groups to include older/younger players where appropriate but the age groups above are where the majority of demand is.
Format
- Weekly training: Wednesdays, 45 minutes to an hour (likely at North Star Park, to be confirmed)
- Weekend games: Saturdays, 4v4 or 3v3 soccer games at Walnut Park in South Davis
- Rosters capped at 8 per age group, so spots are limited — but if players need to miss a session here and there, no worries, this program is meant to be flexible
- About 14 meet-ups total
- Cost: $150 which includes picture day, a team shirt, team equipment, field space, and coach training/support. Already paid for a Fall League spot? We'll get that refund processed in September.
What's Included
- All team equipment and a training plan/curriculum for the coach
- Saturday field space, with the schedule shared in advance so you can plan around it (you could shift a game to Friday evenings if there's enough interest from a team)
- A team t-shirt (ordered mid-season not ready week one, but they're coming!)
- A team picture day on October 10
Schedule for all teams:
- Weekly practice on Wednesday, starting September 9. Practice times will likely be 5–6 PM, but coach availability will impact this.
- Scrimmage Saturdays at Walnut Park:
- September 19 — 9–9:45 AM
- September 26 — 2–2:45 PM
- October 3 — 2–2:45 PM
- October 10 — 1–1:45 PM
- October 17 — 9–9:45 AM
- October 24 — 11–11:45 AM OR 12–12:45 PM
- October 31 — 9–9:45 AM OR 10–10:45 AM
Know someone else who might want in? They can join too! This is the first time we're trying this, so we'll keep everyone updated along the way. The long and short of it: if you want to play soccer, we can help make that happen but we need at least 8 interested players per team, since 4v4 is where the fun really is.
